1. NetMAX 5.02 Update

NetMAX is beginning 2006 with an update to our NetMAX 5 product family, with a current scheduled release date of Monday, February 6th. This update will upgrade all NetMAX 5 products to version 5.02, and it is strongly recommended that all users use NetMAX Package Management to install this update at their earliest convenience after the release date.

PLEASE NOTE: This upgrade will reboot the system.

2. NetMAX 5.02 Changes

Here's what's new in NetMAX Version L24Pv5.02:

UPGRADED FEATURES AND SYSTEMS

  • Security updates have been made to kernel, sendmail, and rsync.
  • /etc/services has been updated.

MAJOR CHANGES

  • Support has been added for SSL-based VPN (OpenVPN) via the VPN
    Services configuration option.
  • The Proxy Caching Server now allows configuration of
    transparent proxies.

CODE FIXES

  • NetMAX now runs a commit at boot time if the DHCP configuration
    changes, fixing name resolution problems.
  • NetMAX now works around misconfigured DHCP servers.
  • Various HTML conformance fixes have been made.
  • More robust network/netmask checking has been added.
  • The IP spoofing rule in the firewall section of the
    interface will now only block traffic from known private
    networks. Several other networks were previously being
    filtered, but have now been removed from the reserved
    network list and are part of the Internet.

USER INTERFACE CHANGES

  • The overall NetMAX interface, color scheme and graphics
    have been updated.
  • OpenVPN configuration settings have been added.
  • Clock settings have been moved from Services to System.
  • OpenVPN routing configuration has been added to the
    Home | Users | <Edit> | Password tab.

The 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the world's largest annual trade show for consumer technology, and America's largest annual trade show of any kind. Every year, many of the most exciting new products are showcased there, and this year even NetMAX got into the act!
