[Updates] Toshiba Cancelling Magnia Server Program 1. Toshiba Cancelling Magnia Server Program Toshiba has informed NetMAX that they will no longer be supplying Magnia series servers for resale. This means that in the near future, Magnia SG30 models will no longer be available in the NetMAX Store. Magnia SG20 models will continue to be available. Toshiba has assured us that they are committed to supporting their products, and will continue to honor all of their warranty and service obligations on all Magnias, including SG20s purchased in the future. Likewise, we here at NetMAX will continue to support our users. Unless you were intending to buy an SG30, this is very unlikely to affect you... we still have SG20s available, and they are still fully supported. In addition, we will be releasing a new all-in-one appliance solution for NetMAX in the near future. We just thought you'd prefer to hear the news straight from us. As always, thanks for your support of NetMAX! 2. Magnia Hard Drive Mirroring Tips The NetMAX software on Toshiba Magnia Servers with NetMAX comes pre-configured for mirroring. It has rsync installed and set up to mirror from the hard drive in the first bay to a drive in the second bay. So, the first step for current single-drive Magnia owners who wish to set up drive mirroring is to obtain a second hard drive that is the exact same size as the first. The drive must be empty and with no volume label for mirroring. Purchasing a new one (through our store or elsewhere) will normally guarantee this. If you are reusing another drive, please see this FAQ for instructions on properly formatting it:
Once you have both drives installed, you can then turn the Magnia back on. You will normally see an alert about a Non-NetMAX formatted drive being detected. The system will then automatically begin mirroring on every hour divisible by four (12:00, 4:00, 8:00, etc...). That's all there is to it. Should you have a disk failure, the procedure to getting back up and running again is very straightforward. Simply power the machine down, and swap the drive in the second bay into the first. Turn the machine back on, and everything will come back like normal. We also recommend following this procedure to test your mirror to make sure that everything is working properly. 3. NetMAX Community Help Resources One of
the many great things about NetMAX, and Linux in general, is
the great community of users. If you are having problems, or are
interested in trying new things, somebody else has probably been
there before. If you've already looked at the documentation and still
need help installing or configuring NetMAX, there are a variety of
resources available. Please check this list, and if you still have If you can't find the answer to your question in the manual, try the Knowledge Base. It is a database of the most frequently asked questions that we receive. You can find it at:
If you have a unique question and can't find the answer anywhere else, we have a User's Forum that you may freely use. This is where the NetMAX community gets together to help each other out. You can ask other NetMAX users for help with your system and frequently the NetMAX support team will pitch in their knowledge. Many of our developmental decisions are also influenced by the feedback we get in these forums. They can be found at:
We would very much like to hear from you -- especially about how you use NetMAX and Linux in your business, and how we can make NetMAX better suited to your needs. Contribute your input to the NetMAX Forum at:
