4. [General] Let's Hear From You

1. Issue Alert -- Daylight Saving Time

Due to the change in Daylight Saving Time, you may find that your NetMAX Server has readjusted itself over the weekend to reflect the previous Daylight Saving Time implementation schedule. If you are experiencing any problems with your network time settings since April 1st, it is caused by this issue.

The fix is simply to re-adjust time on your servers to the correct hour. This should clear up your network time issues for now, but be aware that the issue may resurface during the "Fall Back" period of Daylight Saving Time, from October 28th to November 4th.

If you have questions about this procedure, or any other aspect of NetMAX, please contact NetMAX Support directly!

2. Enabling MySQL at Startup

Some of our users have recently asked how to enable MySQL at startup with NetMAX. While there isn't a dialog inside the NetMAX interface itself to do this, it is quite easily handled from the command line.

To enable MySQL at startup, enter the following commands:

chkconfig --add mysql
chkconfig --level 3 mysql on

Then create the default database by entering the following commands:

service mysql start
service mysql stop

Finally, edit the "/etc/my.cnf" file to enable ANSI interpretation of commands by adding the following to the end of the [mysqld] section:

ansi

And that's it! When you next reboot your NetMAX, MySQL will be enabled by default. Reversing this only requires undoing the above.

If you have questions about this procedure, or any other aspect of NetMAX, please contact NetMAX Support directly!

3. NetMAX Is Hiring!

The NetMAX Team is growing! If you're a Linux programmer who likes NetMAX, you might be the person we're looking for! Currently, NetMAX is seeking candidates with at least the following programming skills:

C++
Perl
Linux
Windows (not as important, but some is preferred)
Networking Administration

For instructions on submitting your resume to the NetMAX folks, please visit the Cybernet Careers web page at:

www.cybernet.com/careers/index.html

Candidates with programming samples available for download/review via the web will get the first look, so let us know if you do!

4. Let's Hear From You!

We would very much like to hear from you - especially about how you use NetMAX and Linux in your business, and what features we can add to NetMAX to make it better suit your needs. Please contribute your input to the NetMAX Forum at:

or to our general NetMAX contact form at:
