2. Blackhole List Spam Filtering in NetMAX

The NetMAX E-Mail Powerpack is capable of utilizing Real-Time Blackhole Lists (RBLs) to stop unwanted bulk e-mail. This feature is highly effective in preventing spam without slowing down your system. In addition, turning it on is as simple as placing a check in the appropriate box on the Home->Services->Mail->Deny tab. As it is an often misunderstood technology, we'd like to take a moment to explain how it works.

NetMAX uses a variety of RBLs including Spamhaus, ORDB, and NJABL. Each of them keeps a list of offenders and has their own method of determining who belongs on that list. By utilizing multiple RBLs, we have greatly increased the effectiveness of the E-Mail Powerpack at blocking spam.

NetMAX utilizes these RBLs by checking with the lists every time a remote server connects to the NetMAX server to deliver mail. If the server the message originates from is on one of the lists, it means that it is being sent from a known offender. The NetMAX server will then not accept the message from the mail server, which will result in it getting bounced back to the sender. Using this method results in extremely effective spam prevention without the system slowdown common with many other methods of spam prevention.
