1. [Support] Logging into NetMAX on Vista
2. [Support] NetMAX and IE7 Certificate Errors
3. [General] Let's Hear From You

1. Logging into NetMAX on Vista

Computers using Vista may have problems logging into NetMAX, and/or may be restricted when authenticating to shared folders. If you cannot authenticate when accessing a shared folder from a computer running Vista (to a NetMAX, network device and/or computer running pre-XP Windows such as 98/55 or a non-Windows OS), the cause may be a mismatch in NTLM 2 support. This protocol is used for file and printer sharing connections by default in Vista.

To resolve this issue, try one of the following procedures:

  1. Enable NTLM 2 support on the computer(s) or device(s) that the Windows Vista-based computer is attempting to connect to. For network devices and/or other OSes, you will need to refer to their own documentation on enabling NTLM 2 support and/or obtain updated firmware. For computers running versions of Windows prior to XP, follow the instructions on Microsoft's website:

    support.microsoft.com/kb/239869

  2. If you cannot enable NTLM 2 support on these computers/devices, change the following registry key on the Vista computer to "1":

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\
Control\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel

Please note that this is not the recommended solution! Use solution #1 if possible, and #2 only as the second choice.

If you have questions about this procedure, or any other aspect of NetMAX, please contact NetMAX Support directly!

2. NetMAX and IE7 Certificate Errors

Users who have upgraded to Internet Explorer version 7 may encounter Certificate Errors when trying to open the NetMAX interface. This is caused by an issue between IE7's standard security settings and
self-signed certificates.

This issue can be easily resolved by going into IE7's "Internet Options" and "allowing" the use of the NetMAX server certificate via the "Certificates" setting. A more detailed description of the procedure is available here:

www.ie-vista.com/secure.html#cert%20problems

If you have questions about this procedure, or any other aspect of NetMAX, please contact NetMAX Support directly!
