1. [Support] Terminal Login How-To
2. [Support] Firewall Restoration Instructions for NetMAX
3. [New!] NetMAX is Hiring!

4. [General] Let's Hear From You

1. Terminal Login How-To

If you have a need for Terminal Login to your NetMAX, you will need to install an X Server for Windows on the machine you will be using to login. Examples of this would be Hummingbird Exceed (commercial), or Cygwin+X (free), though others are available. Refer to their documentation on how to install them.

When you have X for Windows installed, ensure that the host you will be launching an xterm from (the NetMAX) is in the xhost list. To authorize all hosts, simply execute:

xhost +

Next, log into then NetMAX interface.

Click the "xterm" shortcut you have created by following the procedure in the NetMAX manual (or as shortened below):

From "Home|Personal->Edit Personal Hotlinks:"
CREATE
Type: xterm
Name: xterm
OK

It's that simple! If you have questions about this procedure, or any other aspect of NetMAX, please contact NetMAX Support directly!

2. Firewall Restoration Instructions for NetMAX

Once you've created your configuration backup floppy through the NetMAX interface, become root and run:

/usr/netmax/bin/floppy_backup.pl -r -t -f

This will produce a gzipped tar archive in /var/tmp.

Extract the var/conf/sdb/DEVICES/ files from the archive -- these contain your firewall rules. Go through the files by running:

/usr/netmax/bin/sdbmore <filename>

Determine which fields correspond to which UI elements via the"Custom" firewall rules tab and set them appropriately.

PLEASE NOTE! This procedure is recommended for gurus only. Beginner, intermediate, and even some expert users may require assistance to successfully complete it. If you have questions about this procedure, or any other aspect of NetMAX, please contact NetMAX Support directly!

3. NetMAX Is Hiring!

  • Windows (not as important, but some is preferred)
  • Networking Administration

For instructions on submitting your resume to the NetMAX folks, please visit the Cybernet Careers web page at:
