IX. Troubleshooting

A. Overview

The following problems are organized in categories, according to when they occur during the installation/startup process.

Resolutions should explain why the problem is occurring. If you still need help, either:

Problem: At what point in the installation process can I start using the NetMAX online help?

Resolution:You do not need to install the NetMAX software to use the NetMAX installation online help. You can access some helpful information including System Requirements and the Install Guide when you open INSTALL.HTM on the NetMAX CD-ROM from within your browser. After you have completed installing the NetMAX software and access any of the NetMAX web pages, you can see the complete NetMAX Online Help by clicking on the icon that appears at the top of all NetMAX pages.

B. Problems When Starting the NetMAX Installation

These are the problems that could occur when you are first trying to install the NetMAX.

Problem: My NetMAX will not boot off of the CD.

Resolution: This probably means that your computer is not capable of booting off of a CD-ROM. Place the boot floppy distributed with the NetMAX in the floppy drive and place the NetMAX CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive at the same time. Then restart.

Problem: I cannot boot from the NetMAX boot floppy.

Resolution: Possible reasons for this problem:

• 1. Your boot floppy is damaged. Try making another floppy as described at http://www.netmax.com/. Make sure to use a new 1.44MB 3.5" floppy.
• 2. Some of your hardware is set up differently from the NetMAX software expectations. Reboot using the floppy again, and use the Advanced Configuration described in Appendix A of this manual.
• 3. Your PC's BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is set so that your machine does not boot off of a floppy. Consult your computer's documentation for controlling the BIOS settings.
