NetMAX FireWall and Professional Update Floppies

The following instructions will guide you through the process of making and using a NetMAX update floppy. This floppy is for users with NetMAX Linux RH52PV2.0 FireWall and Professional products. This update floppy contains several security fixes and is highly recommended.

Creating the Floppies

This section will tell you how to make the update floppies.

Windows

You must save the following three files to your desktop:

makeboot.bat
fdimage.exe
update.img

Insert a 1.44M floppy disk in Floppy Drive A: (note: this disk will be overwritten by this procedure). Double click on makeboot.bat to create a NetMAX boot floppy in drive A.

If you are unable to make the floppy and you are a registered user, email support@netmax.com to have a floppy sent to you.

MacOS

Currently, Cybernet does not support the creation of boot floppies using MacOS.

Unix

You must download the following file:

update.img

Insert a blank, floppy disk in the floppy drive. Use 'dd' to copy the image 'update.img' to your floppy drive.

FreeBSD the command would be:

fdformat /dev/rfd0

dd if=update.img of=/dev/rfd0

Under Linux (Red Hat v. 5.2) the command would be:

fdformat /dev/fd0H1440

dd if=update.img of=/dev/fd0H1440

If you are unable to make the floppy and you are a registered user, email support@netmax.com to have a floppy sent to you.

Using the floppies

Once the floppy is made, insert it into the NetMAX server. Reboot the server and watch the console for instructions. It should complete without intervention. When prompted, remove the floppy and reboot the NetMAX server.
